Tour de France Time Trials

I picked Max and Justin up from work the last Thursday of the Tour de France and we headed over to a small town near Annecy to see the time trials. Our GPS asked us if we wanted to avoid the toll roads, and we said yes, hoping to avoid the crowds and traffic. Then it asked us if we wanted to avoid unpaved roads. We said no... The drive there was beautiful (and somewhat nauseating due to the switch backs) but when we arrived, we were able to stake-out a great spot right next to the road.

Being at the time trials was pretty neat because each rider would go by in roughly 2 minute intervals, so we were able to see almost everyone, stretched out over about 6 hours. We could tell when someone more famous was about to come around the corner because we could hear a helicopter, plus some crazy guy that kept yelling "il arrivera!" or "here he comes!".

And here is Lance Armstrong! I think he was either the third or second to the last rider to run the course. Alberto Contador, winner of the Tour, was the last rider to go. By that time, everyone was closing in on the street, trying to get a better look. I can't take credit for this shot of him; Justin took it with his camera.

And there he goes! Lance was being followed by a large entourage of cameramen and support crews, as were most of the big names. All the riders seemed to go by in a blur. It was a challenge to try to catch them with a good picture. We had a lot of time to play around with the camera before the top riders ran the track. It was fun though and hopefully we'll get to do this again next year too!
